Abstract
Rhode Island Hospital, a Lifespan Health System partner, is the principal teaching hospital for The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Under the Director of Clinical Research Dr. Francesca Beaudoin, MD, PhD I assisted in the study, “Implementing Statewide Emergency Department Care Pathways for Addiction Recovery after Opioid Overdose,” funded by the CDC. As part of Pathways, I assisted in the education and surveying of ED nursing staff on care plans for opioid overdose patients, which included people-first language, naloxone training and kit administration, and buprenorphine initiation in the ED. I also investigated a sub-study concerning Rhode Island’s 48-hour reporting system for opioid overdoses.
