Abstract
This past summer I volunteered in the Cognition, Emotion, and Life Experiences Lab (CELL) at Butler Hospital in Providence, RI. This is a psychosocial research lab that is aimed at better understanding suicidal and non-suicidal self-injurious thoughts and behaviors. My responsibilities included data cleaning and verification, shadowing participant appointments, and basic office administrative tasks. Within the volunteer program was a mentorship aspect in which I met with one of the research assistants on a biweekly basis to discuss any professional development questions I might have.
