Abstract
During the summer of 2023, I worked as a full-time undergraduate intern with the Psychiatry Department of Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, New Hampshire, in a position offered through the Dartmouth Hitchcock Workforce Readiness Institute. I was assigned to multiple ongoing projects including gender, neurodiversity and autism spectrum disorder research. I was trained in a pilot pediatric mental health onboarding program and was able to interact with patients. I assisted in related office work, including follow-up phone calls for referrals and organizing spreadsheets. I was also able to shadow doctors in various positions and departments. In addition to the host site experience, the DHMC program offered biweekly professional development workshops, advisory groups, and small-group learning sessions to promote networking. This internship helped me cultivate skills including time management, communication, empathy, and leadership. I look forward to continuing my learning in graduate school after Connecticut College and building a career in the mental health field.
