Abstract

I was a Wetland Ecosystems REU intern at the Rochester Institute of Technology (Rochester, NY) over the summer. REU programs provide opportunities for students from small schools and underrepresented backgrounds to go to universities with large research programs and learn how to conduct and present research. The Wetland Ecosystems REU program at RIT focused on students with an interest in environmental science. I conducted an original research project while attending seminars and helping out with wetland restoration projects. I also had to create and present a poster for the end of summer RIT Research Symposium. I highly recommend this experience because it was a great opportunity for different majors to learn about environmental science research.
