Abstract

This summer, I served as a unit head at Camp Yavneh, a Jewish sleepaway camp in Northwood, NH. I was responsible for managing a staff of 10 counselors, leading biweekly meetings with my entire staff, and providing feedback on counselors’ performance. My main responsibility was ensuring the physical and emotional well-being of my campers, 50+ thirteen-year-olds (children entering eighth grade). I planned educational and recreational activities for campers daily, as well as communicated frequently with my supervisors to discuss relevant camper and staff concerns. I worked closest with my direct supervisor to discuss how to best support my campers, specifically those with behavioral or mental health issues.
