Abstract
This paper narrates the comprehensive experience of a summer internship as a backend developer at IBM, focusing on the enhancement of Beekeeper, an internal device compliance tool. The intern utilized Django and Celery Beat to implement automated reporting features, thereby streamlining the functionality for monitoring over 400,000 devices. This role demanded the application of various skills, such as critical thinking, time management, creativity, and effective communication, all fostered by a liberal arts background. The internship served as a dynamic platform for professional growth, allowing for the development of new learning objectives, particularly in the realms of systems architecture and efficient data processing. The engagement with stakeholders and contribution to the 2023 Intern Yearbook Committee provided a holistic understanding of the ethical considerations in workplace practices. Reflecting on performance and workplace dynamics, the paper discusses the intern's strengths, areas for improvement, and the influence of ethical considerations on future professional endeavors. This experience not only met but expanded the intern's career goals and showcased the intricate balance between technical expertise and liberal arts education in shaping a well-rounded technology professional.
