Abstract

During my internship at KidSHINE Pediatric Occupational Therapy Clinic in Rowley, MA, I gained hands-on experience working with children facing diverse physical, sensory, and cognitive challenges. KidSHINE's innovative approach, blending foundational OT theories with creative, play-based interventions, provided me with invaluable opportunities to observe and contribute to personalized therapy sessions. I supported licensed occupational therapists in facilitating activities targeting emotional regulation, motor development, reflex integration, and social skills, while witnessing the profound impact of these interventions on children's progress. My role included designing engaging therapy activities and obstacle courses, enhancing both physical and emotional outcomes for clients. This experience deepened my understanding of pediatric occupational therapy, reinforced my leadership skills, and solidified my dedication to holistic, child-centered therapeutic practices. Additionally, it allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge from my liberal arts education to real-world settings, further developing my critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving abilities. The internship also expanded my awareness of public health principles in pediatric care, focusing on health promotion, wellness, and addressing disparities in early intervention.
