Abstract

This spring and summer I had the opportunity to explore English and Spanish language education in Toledo, Spain through the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha for my PICA internship. I began my work with CEIP Gregorio Marañón, a local school for students ages 3-12, where I was an English Teaching Assistant. I facilitated language and cultural exchange activities, assisted English grammar and composition lessons, and participated in the school's bilingual curriculum. Later in the summer, I began as an assistant at the university's "Español Para Extranjeros" program. There, I learned Spanish with diverse international students and further developed my connection to Toledo's history, culture, and traditions. This later encouraged virtual volunteer work with Sierra Club Pennsylvania where I learned to translate flyers for environmental education and justice programs from English into Spanish.
