Abstract
This paper reflects on a summer internship experience at Horizon Technology Finance, a venture debt company providing loans to growth-stage companies. The internship involved rotations through accounting, credit, and origination departments, offering a comprehensive view of the company's operations and the venture debt industry. Key experiences included assisting with 10K filing preparations, participating in due diligence calls with executives, monitoring portfolio companies, and co-underwriting a $35 million venture loan. The paper discusses the development of both technical skills, such as proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint, and soft skills like professional communication and time management. Finally, it explores how this experience shaped future career goals and provided insights into the finance industry, ultimately confirming the author's career path choice.
