Abstract
The research centered around maternal mortality focuses especially on black maternal health, as the US has had consistently poor maternal mortality outcomes, with black/African American women almost three times more likely to experience a pregnancy related death. With the Summer Science Research Institute, I worked with the Statistics and Biology department to conduct research on maternal mortality rates within the United States using bibliometric analysis, which is a statistical methodology that enables researchers to study trends and patterns of a specific topic through literature publications. With this experience, students are able to work with this faculty member to design and conduct a research project, enabling students to both achieve individual goals, and build relationships with faculty and peers.
