Abstract

The internship allowed me to experience the day-to-day in an embassy and at the same time gave me valuable insight into the private lives of many of my colleagues and the way that they have adapted their family and personal life to the job they do. In numerous conversations - over lunch and dinner - I got to hear the pros and cons of diplomatic careers, the sacrifices as well as the advantages of moving every 4 years. In that regard, my views on foreign service as a career have become a lot more profound and substantiated, allowing me to weigh what this trajectory could offer me.
