Abstract
I pursued certifications in Adult, Child, and Baby First Aid/CPR/AED through the American Red Cross to advance my role at Cape Cod Hospital and enable me to transition from urgent care into the ER. While I appreciated my work in urgent care, I wanted more direct involvement in patient care, and these certifications were a necessary step. With them, I was able to take on the role of Clinical Patient Access Representative, allowing me to triage patients, identify urgent situations, and perform life-saving measures while waiting for clinical staff. The training, though largely a review of my existing EMT skills, gave me the formal qualifications to take on more responsibility and actively contribute in the fast-paced ER environment. It also opened the door for potential future opportunities, such as connecting with the hospital’s psychology department or exploring clinical work further.
