Abstract
This paper reflects on my experience taking the University of Connecticut’s online course Speech and Language Acquisition, which allowed me to explore my interest in the field of speech pathology. This course was also very applicable to my studies at Conn, double majoring in psychology and human development. The course provided an in-depth look at how speech and language develop, the ways communication disorders can impact individuals, and the role of speech-language pathologists in supporting development and intervention. I not only gained foundational knowledge about the profession but also strengthened essential skills such as time management, critical thinking, and self-directed learning in an asynchronous format. By taking this course, I was able to strengthen my understanding of interest in this field. By connecting course content to my prior classroom and shadowing experiences at Connecticut College, this opportunity clarified my career aspirations, confirmed my passion for speech pathology, and helped me envision how I can integrate my current studies with future professional training.
