Abstract

This reflection describes my experience as a marine conservation research assistant for non-profit Global Reef in Koh Tao, Thailand. I describe my general responsibilities as an intern and research assistant including an overview of my day, the structure of the internship, and scuba diving certifications I earned for the internship experience. I discuss the survey and underwater data collection methods that I performed on a daily basis including fish and invertebrate surveys, coral reef assessments, and coral restoration methods. I also share what I gained from these experiences as well as what challenged me, both academically and more broadly.
