Abstract

This reflection paper explores Thayer Green’s transformative experience participating in the Narnia Festival, an international performing arts program held in Narni, Italy. Originally planning to attend with a faculty mentor, Thayer navigated the unexpected challenge of traveling and performing alone when the mentor became ill. Through intensive rehearsals, performances, and cross-cultural collaboration in Puccini’s Suor Angelica, Thayer gained invaluable artistic, professional, and personal growth. The paper reflects on the development of time management, adaptability, and communication skills, and highlights the impact of a liberal arts education in preparing for high-level international performance. It concludes with reflections on newfound confidence, a deepened commitment to opera, and future career goals involving international artistic work and potential study abroad opportunities.
