Abstract
This summer I interned in the Department of Genetic and Cellular Medicine at UMass Chan Medical School in the Gray-Edwards lab. This lab studies rare diseases such as Tay-sachs, Sialidosis, and Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD). Most of my days were spent in the wet lab completing tasks such as DNA extraction, PCR purification, and prepping for necropsies. I also got to help assist in necropsies of mice and sheep by cutting up the tissues/organs. I was able to refine my laboratory skills, learn anatomy and so much more.
