Abstract
The Biobehavioral and Social-Emotional Development lab studies how biological, behavioral, and environmental factors influence children aged 1-5 in the development of callous unemotional traits, which are early signs of maladaptive behavior, behavior disorders, and psychopathology. It uses multiple methodologies, such as eye-tracking, heart rate monitoring, computer game based tasks for children, and parent-child interactions to assess behavior. This summer, I worked as an intern for the BASE Lab. This paper explains my role as a research assistant, what I gained from the experience, and how I plan to use what I have learned for the future.
