Abstract
I discuss my time at Connecticut College’s Summer Science Research Institute program studying botany with Professor Rachel Spicer. I explain what the program was like for me, my hesitations before entering, the academic connections I formed with science professors and students as well as social connections I formed with the New London community, and how this opportunity benefited me in terms of skills I gained and how they connect broader to my future. I also give an overview of what our research was about, studying the movement of the hormone auxin in Populus tremula x alba, and how our research acted as a fun culmination of botany, molecular biology, and chemistry. I end with commenting on what my future may hold and how this program paved the way for it.
