Abstract
This paper outlines my position as a research intern at Pennsylvania State University as part of the Climate Science Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program. I spent my time analyzing data on solid waste management in rural communities of the Peruvian Amazon and reflect on how my participation in this program influenced my skills as a scientist, student, and communicator. This paper outlines how the REU program has prepared me for a future career as a researcher.
