Abstract

Throughout the months of June 2026 and July 2026, I was a student researcher in the lab of Dr. Carla Parker-Athill here at Connecticut College. I participated in research on C8S mouse astrocyte cells, treating them with corticosterone in order to gain insight on the impact of chronic cortisol exposure on the body; this was all connected back to racism as an adverse childhood experience (ACE) and the broad question of "what impact does racism have on the body long-term?" and how this is all related to crucial developmental periods for the brain.
