Abstract

Over the summer, I participated in the Archaeological Conservation Institute. While there, I took intensive courses on the history of conservation efforts over time, how they have evolved, as well as various forms and styles of art and architecture. There was a primary focus on Ancient Greek and Roman frescoes and mosaics. We participated in mosaic laboratory work where we designed our own pieces and practiced an indirect method of creating them. We had the opportunity to learn about the documentary and film process from a documentarian, then worked together to create our own short films. Alongside the courses, we went on cultural visits to Rome and Florence and got to see projects that the Centro di Conservazione Archeologica is currently working on, such as the Florence Baptistery. Once in Ancient Corinth, we dedicated most of our time to fieldwork in the North Market, specifically cleaning mosaics and installing protective measures from any possible aggressor.
