Abstract

This paper is a reflection about my experience as a student researcher participating in the Summer Science Research Institute (SSRI). In SSRI, I worked at understanding how cortisol affects gene expression and the role that DNA methylation plays in this. I reflect in how this experience reaffirmed my interest in the science/health care field. In addition to this, I highlight moments from the experience that refined my ability to be adaptable and resilient, both qualities that are necessary when engaging in research work. Throughout the reflection, I express my gratitude for the lessons this summer experience gave me and how it will shape me to be the future public health professional that I desire to be.
