Abstract

This paper reflects on a summer research internship at the Yale Child Study Center (YCSC), where I gained experience in both the research and clinical aspects of the field of psychology. My primary research responsibility involved contributing to an ongoing meta-analysis examining sex representation in pharmacological randomized controlled trials for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Through the process of screening study titles, abstracts, and full texts according to established inclusion and exclusion criteria, I developed skills in literature review and critical analysis. In addition to my research responsibilities, I participated in weekly laboratory meetings and project-specific discussions, gaining insight into collaboration within a clinical research environment. I also observed interdisciplinary case discussions and patient evaluations within the Tic/OCD Clinic, which provided valuable exposure to the process of clinical assessment. These experiences strengthened my interest in psychology, particularly in working with children and families, while also increasing my appreciation for the role of research in informing clinical practice.
