Abstract

This essay reflects on my summer working at JEBARA, a luxury decor agency in New York, and how the experience changed my ideas about success, ambition, and professional identity. What began as an incredible opportunity to prove that I belonged in the city quickly became a complicated experience of responsibility, pressure, and burnout. Through my work in office management, I gained confidence in my skills and proved my ability to take on incredible responsibility. At the same time, I learned that being capable does not mean consumption, and that ambition without boundaries, support, and direction can quickly become self abandonment.
