Abstract
Aspiring to go medical school and pursue a career in Emergency Medicine, I had the opportunity to volunteer at Trumbull EMS as an EMT, and also a volunteer at Bridgeport's Yale New Haven Health Emergency Room. I gained very valuable clinical experience in these positions and learned tremendously about the inner operations in the Emergency Room. These roles allowed me to strengthen my communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills while learning the importance of adaptability and teamwork in high-pressure environments. As an EMT communication is emphasized, not only between patients but also between you and your partner and the hospital staff. Volunteering in the Emergency Department further exposed me to the collaborative efforts of physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals as they worked together to provide timely and effective patient care. Most importantly, these experiences taught me the importance of remaining calm under pressure, approaching patients with empathy, and recognizing that every patient has unique needs and circumstances.
