Abstract
This paper reflects on my internship at SkyBridge Capital, which I secured through proactive outreach to my personal network and alumni to explore my interest in finance and global markets. Throughout the program, I sharpened my ability to evaluate companies and analyze markets, leveraging my prior experience in financial modeling and stock pitching at Connecticut College. My liberal arts education provided a distinct advantage, as SkyBridge’s founder, a Tufts alumnus, values a broad perspective that balances business strategy with broader life insights, setting my background apart from typical finance students. While the internship offered great networking, exposure to industry leaders, and valuable insight into market dynamics, it also clarified my long-term career direction: I realized that macro market prediction and capital flows do not fit my working style, and I prefer a hands-on focus on physical operations and tangible business execution. Additionally, evaluating abstract companies with less solid fundamentals presented a persistent challenge. Overall, while institutional macro finance does not align with my next ten years, the experience was invaluable, and I plan to apply these financial skills to future operational business endeavors while remaining open to long-term private equity and growth-stage investing as capital permits.
