Abstract

In this reflection paper, I recount my transformative experience as an intern in the HIV/Aging Research Administration program at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). With the support of the BASTA Fellowship, which assists underrepresented minority undergraduates in career development, I navigated a rigorous application process and secured a position that significantly enhanced my professional skills. Throughout my eight-week internship, I gained hands-on experience in research administration, including budget management, grant progress support, and conducting literature reviews, etc. I developed critical skills such as time management, organizational abilities, and critical thinking, which were essential for meeting project milestones and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The mentorship I received from experienced professionals reinforced my commitment to a career in public health and clarified my interest in research management specifically. Overall, this internship contributed immensely to my personal and professional growth and solidified my dedication to advancing knowledge in the field of public health.
