Abstract

I interned at Blue Earth Compost, a food scrap collection service located in Hartford, Connecticut this summer. The main project that I worked on was a proposal for the Hartford City Council to adopt a curbside organics collection program for residents of the city. I interviewed the leaders of municipal curbside organics collection programs from across the country to understand the challenges they faced during the implementation of their programs and to get advice for how to establish Hartford’s proposed program. My interests in waste diversion and consumption habits led me to this internship, and I am grateful to have been able to be a part of such an important project!
