Abstract

The Disney College Program is a national internship program organized by the Disney Programs division of the Walt Disney Company. Students from across the world are placed in roles all throughout the Disney theme parks and resorts in both Orlando and Anaheim. Disney offers all participants with housing on Disney property, transportation to and from the apartment complex, full-time wages and numerous networking opportunities both within the theme parks as well as with other areas of the Walt Disney Company. I was placed at Disney’s Animal Kingdom as a Park Greeter at the front entrance of the park. This meant that I was responsible for checking guests into the park via our ticketing system and biometric security system. It was my job to be able to assist with ticking issues and any concerns that arose within the check in process. There is also a lot of safety responsibility that comes with working at the front of the park which meant that I had to adhere to several safety protocols such as lockdowns, lost child alerts and fraudulent ticket activity. In addition, Because I was one of the first cast members that guests saw that day, I also was tasked with knowing information about all areas of the park including how to work the mobile app, what attractions are running and directions to places throughout the park. Cast members are held to Disney standards of exceptional customer service and guest relations so it was of the utmost importance that I maintained a compassionate and generous demeanor throughout the duration of each and every shift. This program was a life changing experience for me, and reshaped the way I am thinking about my future career goals.
