Abstract
La Jolla Playhouse is a world-renowned theatrical institution. In addition to their normal programming, where they’re known to be a creator of Tony-award winning productions, La Jolla also produces an annual festival called the Without Walls (WOW) Festival. This festival brings together performance artists from all over the world spanning expressions such as dance, music, devised-theater, and more. As a production assistant for the mainstage, I began my contract by assisting the Festival Office Manager in creating and maintaining the backstage area. As the programming began, I shifted into a role that focused on ensuring the success of productions on the mainstage by communicating with the different companies and managing each company’s arrival, tech, and performance. In addition to this, I also worked to manage audience expectations and crowd control.
