Abstract

This summer I worked as a research intern at Connecticut College in the Summer Science Research Institute (SSRI) program. I worked under the director of the Neuroscience department to develop an invertebrate model of psychostimulant addiction using an aquatic flatworms species called planaria. We conducted research for 8 weeks over the summer and had the opportunity to present our findings to fellow peers involved in the research program at a weekly colloquia meeting. This program helped strengthen my laboratory skills and independence. The weekly colloquia gave me an opportunity to experience what a possible research conference would look like. I enjoyed the opportunity to present research that I was a part of as well as listen to how other groups were conducting their research.
