Abstract

"Billings became my home base during this stretch of my research journey, a city that sits between modernity and the myth of the Old West. There's a ruggedness to Billings that mirrors the landscape around it—dry, expansive, a place where time doesn’t move at the same pace as the cities I’ve known before. The city felt like a threshold, a gateway into the history that I was chasing, a place where the past isn’t confined to museums but lives in the very air, in the way people speak about their history, their land, and their ancestors."
