Abstract

This reflection paper explains the author’s internship experience at Orr and Reno, a law firm in New Hampshire, as part of Connecticut College’s Career Action Program. With a long-standing interest in law, the author embarked on this internship to explore the field more deeply, particularly in immigration law. The paper details the challenges of securing the internship, initial anxieties, and the professional growth gained through hands-on tasks such as legal research, drafting documents, and shadowing attorneys. The experience showed the nature of immigration law and helped the author recognize the importance of work-life balance in their future legal career. Through support from paralegals and legal assistants, the author overcame communication gaps and developed vital skills in time management, office etiquette, and professional communication. The reflection also highlights the impact of a liberal arts education and Connecticut College’s supportive community in preparing the author for real-world legal work. Ultimately, the internship affirmed the author’s desire to attend law school.
