Abstract

This paper reflects on my summer internship experience at Dialectic Capital Management, a small venture capital firm in Darien, CT. The internship provided a unique opportunity to learn directly from the firm’s partners and gain firsthand exposure to the venture capital investment process, particularly in the medical startup sector. Beyond building a stronger foundation in finance and investment evaluation, I also developed critical professional skills such as collaboration, creative problem-solving, and time management. The experience highlighted both my strengths, including adaptability and analytical thinking, as well as areas for growth, especially in technical financial skills. Ultimately, the internship was transformative, offering clarity about my career aspirations in finance, affirming my desire to pursue the field more seriously, and equipping me with concrete goals for future academic and professional development.
