Abstract
This summer I had the opportunity to shadow a PA in orthopedics, an experience which helped me gain better insight for a potential career. Shadowing allowed me to witness first hand the patient centered approach that characterize the PA profession. I observed a wide range of cases and gained a lot of experience in medical terminology. While initially overwhelmed by the pace and difficulty of seeing patients in pain I grew more comfortable as I recognized how the doctors do their testing to diagnose a patient. his experience strengthened my skills in observation, communication, and critical thinking, while also showing me the value of integrating my background in neuroscience, economics, and liberal arts into healthcare. Ultimately, shadowing reinforced my passion for becoming a PA and inspired me to further explore specialties such as orthopedics and dermatology.
