Abstract
The summer of 25 was essential for my future career as a journalist. I interned at The Melrose Messenger, a local online publication run by a resident of Melrose. I wrote multiple articles detailing community events, city budget cuts, and local zoning ordinances. I also tried my hand at the publication’s social media, recording and editing two videos to post on our Instagram page. The experience helped build my repertoire of clips to use when applying to jobs, hone research and writing skills that will be necessary as I take on bigger tasks, and forced me to work and communicate remotely, which offered challenges in itself. Most importantly, my internship helped me solidify my interest in journalism, and I will continue to pursue the venture in the future. With the connections I have built and the experience I now have from this summer, I will apply for larger scale internships next summer.
