Abstract

In Summer 2025 I was afforded the opportunity to work with the Guilford Keeping Society of Guilford, Connecticut, wherein i served as both docent and intern at the Thomas Griswold House Museum and the Medad Stone Tavern Museum. I was given responsibilities such providing guided tours, opening, closing, and maintaining both sites, encouraging donations, and revising the docent handbook to better support future docents. The internship which I secured after a lengthy search process allowed me to gain hands-on professional experience in a genuine museum setting, particularly with regards to public engagement and visitor services. While my academic background in Art History and Museum Studies prepared me to a great degree, much of my on-site learning came through adapting quickly to new responsibilities and developing confidence in unsupervised work. This internship sharpened valuable skills such as communication and adaptability, which I view as valuable stepping stones toward my goal of a career in Collections Management, even if the specific focus differed from my long-term interests.
