Abstract

Worked with a newly started firm to find opportunities in the middle market of energy transition investing. Investing themes encountered included geothermal, clean fuels, wind, solar, and more. Given the federal regulatory climate, part of the work was preparing material and researching the vast impacts of the "big beautiful bill" act on the renewables/energy transition space, this was especially crucial given its impacts on federal incentives for some of the projects that were part of the live deals during my time at the firm. While there was some quantitative elements to the work, a lot of it I learned is very qualitative, the assumptions behind some models dont come from purely numbers, rather the results of calls with some of the companies we worked with, the status of projects, and many other micro/macro factors that surpass pure numbers. It was very interesting to use some basic concepts and frameworks learned in my earlier econ classes play out in real time during a very tumultuous and relevant period in energy transition finance.
