Abstract
This summer, I spent the month of July working as a Residential Teaching Assistant (RTA) at the College of William & Mary with the National Institute of American History & Democracy. This program, a three-week pre-college program for high schoolers interested in American History, offered students the opportunity to experience what it was like to be a college student and learn about history through lectures and site visits to relevant historical sites around Virginia. As an RTA, I lived with the students in the dorm, organized activities for them to do outside of the classroom, and went with them to the sites to further assist in their learning. I also assisted in office hours to which students could come looking for support in anything ranging from essay writing to college-level reading to applying to college.
