Abstract

This reflection recounts my sixteen-week internship with LiberArte, a Jackson Heights arts nonprofit that uses art to advance racial, social, and climate justice for underrepresented communities. I joined seeking two things: meaningful work with an impact-driven nonprofit, and hands-on growth as a product designer. Working alongside an international team, I designed high-fidelity website pages, including Donate, Events, Courses, and a Grant Writing services page, and helped unify the work of three designers into one cohesive product. The reflection focuses on process rather than deliverables: how I found the experience, how my goals were met and exceeded, and what I learned about myself, including a strong interest in accessible design and a newfound confidence in giving feedback. I also discuss navigating delayed client communication as our central challenge, how my Computer Science major and Art and Global Islamic Studies minors prepared me, and the career direction- product design within the creative side of nonprofit technology—that emerged from the experience.
