Abstract

As a student researcher partaking in Connecticut College's Summer Science Research Institute (SSRI) under the direction of Professor Parker-Athill, I participated in the culturing and treatment of C8-S astrocyte cells. Cells were treated with corticosterone and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) for different acute and chronic exposure times. Media, protein, and RNA were collected following the completement of treatment and analyzed in Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assays (ELISA) and Reverse Transcription Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-qPCR), in order to measure the expression of inflammatory cytokines. Results will be presented at the 2026 SSRI Symposium.
