Abstract

This internship provided valuable hands-on experience in physical therapy and allowed me to assess my interest in pursuing it as a career. Through working with patients, assisting with exercises, observing evaluations, and learning about various treatment specialties, I developed a stronger understanding of the field and the importance of patient-centered care. Helping patients with Parkinson’s disease and stroke also allowed me to connect my neuroscience background to clinical practice and better understand the relationship between the brain and body. In addition to strengthening my communication, collaboration, and time-management skills, the internship helped me identify the type of work environment I prefer and recognize areas for personal growth. Ultimately, the experience confirmed that physical therapy is a career I could see myself pursuing while also highlighting the importance of exploring other medical professions before making a final career decision.
