Abstract

This reflection examines my experience as a Community Agriculture Intern at the Sprout Garden and how the internship contributed to my academic, professional, and personal development. As a Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology major, I gained practical knowledge of crop production, plant health, and agricultural practices while connecting concepts from my coursework to real-world experiences. The internship also strengthened my communication, teamwork, critical-thinking, decision-making, and leadership skills through collaboration with other students and members of the New London community. Although I initially struggled with identifying unfamiliar crops and adapting to physically demanding work, these challenges became opportunities for learning and growth. Overall, the experience deepened my understanding of agriculture, food access, community service, and workplace professionalism while showing me the value of applying scientific knowledge beyond the laboratory.
