Abstract
My primary goal for completing this course was to prepare myself for post-graduation clinical opportunities during my gap year, so that I can gain the clinical hours and experience needed to apply to Physician Assistant school. I found my experience in the U.S. online career institute course to be very valuable. The process consisted of 4 packs of lessons focused on essential skills to succeed as a medical assistant. Pack 1 was an introduction to the course, including sub-lessons on medical records, medical terminology, and the development of the personal and social skills required to succeed in a healthcare setting. Pack 2 introduced anatomy, essential vital signs, electronic health records, and medical insurance. The final two packs focused on clinical knowledge, patient testing, common medical procedures, and patient treatments. Each lesson ended with a short, untimed, open-note quiz, which provided an opportunity to thoroughly review the material and reflect on my notes.
