Abstract
This reflection discusses my experience as a Student Researcher in the Summer Student Research Internship (SSRI) at Connecticut College. Working under Professor Cassie Raker, I researched gene expression related to the growth of the Caribbean coral Orbicella faveolata also known as OFAV. Throughout the project, I developed skills in laboratory techniques, troubleshooting, collaboration, time management, and critical thinking. Although sample issues and degraded RNA prevented us from fully completing our original goals, these challenges taught me the importance of trial and error in scientific research. This experience also helped me recognize my strengths in teamwork and collaboration while giving me a better understanding of the realities of conducting research. Overall, the internship provided valuable scientific and personal growth that I can carry into my future academic and career explorations.
