Abstract
In summer 2026, I completed a three-month internship at the Mammoth Site, a natural history museum and active paleontological site in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The museum is built around a prehistoric sinkhole containing the fossil remains of more than 60 mammoths. As an intern, I participated in fossil preparation, excavation, collections management, and guest education at the museum. My experience in Ice Age paleontology will shape my SIP for the Goodwin-Niering Center for the Environment, which will be an honors thesis focused on end-Pleistocene extinctions and rewilding.
