Abstract
Lucy began interning with Maine Equal Justice (MEJ) on June 5th and completed her last day on August 15th, wrapping up her 11-week internship, where she worked about 15 hours a week (some weeks more, some weeks less). MEJ is a nonprofit civil legal aid and economic justice organization based in Augusta, Maine, but serves the whole state and has an office in Portland, where she was living this summer. They straddle an interesting combination of work that is difficult to implement on a statewide basis: MEJ advocates for fair public policies in the legislature, provides direct legal services and representation through impact litigation, and partners with low-income communities through outreach and education.
