Abstract
As an architectural intern at El Terreno in Guaranda, Ecuador, I increased my understanding of traditional Andean architecture through hands-on work with adobe, developing community-based design solutions, and individual exploration into indigenous architectural methods. My projects used design to support sustainable tourism and income generation in Atandahua, Guaranda.
I applied and expanded technical skills in SketchUp, AutoCAD, and Adobe Suite, while also learning the importance of interpersonal relationships in community design. Through interviews, site visits, and collaborative planning, our team developed renovation and new-build proposals that maintained local identity while inviting international engagement from tourists.
This experience affirmed my commitment to socially responsible and sustainable architecture. It also sharpened my communication, documentation, and cultural adaptation skills, preparing me to work across global contexts and communities.
