Abstract

This reflection details my experience as a Policy Fellow at One Green Thing, a non-profit addressing climate anxiety—the intersection of climate change and mental health. Over the summer, I led the organization’s Climate and Democracy Leadership Intensive, managed communications, and monitored environmental policy developments. This position strengthened my leadership, writing, and administrative skills while challenging my assumptions about who can contribute to environmental activism. Through this work, I learned that climate action requires diverse perspectives beyond scientific expertise. Working remotely presented both challenges and lessons in discipline, productivity, and adaptability. Ultimately, this fellowship deepened my understanding of the links between climate justice, civic engagement, and mental well-being, reaffirming my commitment to pursuing a career centered on social impact and policy.
