Abstract
This reflection examines my experience completing a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) course during the summer of 2026 as part of my preparation for a future career in medicine. I chose this experience because I wanted to complement my research experience at Connecticut College with clinical preparation and develop qualifications that would help me pursue clinical employment. Throughout the course, I developed knowledge of medical terminology, clinical practices, patient care, communication, and professional responsibilities. The experience also strengthened my organization, time management, and critical-thinking skills while helping me better understand the difference between learning about healthcare in a classroom and applying that knowledge in a clinical environment. Although I have not yet completed the CCMA certification examination, I plan to take it during the fall semester and use the certification to pursue further clinical experience. The course helped clarify my next steps as a pre-med student and reinforced the importance of developing both scientific and interpersonal skills as I prepare for a career in medicine.
